Martha Puckett Middle School Band

Alternate Assignment for Missed Band Performance

7th and 8th Grade

Directions: Write an essay on the two topics listed below.  Each topic should be a minimum of one page in length. This assignment will be due no later than Friday, December 20th at 3:30 pm.  For each day that it is late, you will be deducted 10 points. This will count as a performance grade replacement.  This essay should be shared with chris.harper@wayne.k12.ga.us  via Google Docs.  A handwritten essay will not be accepted.

1. Why is music important? Think about what it means to you, to society, to education, etc. What are some of the ways that people (including you) experience music on a daily basis and how does it affect us as human beings? What is your definition of the word "music?"

2. Write a self-evaluation of your progress this year in band from August to now. What were some things that you did well? What can you improve upon and how will you go about it? What, if anything, would you change? You may discuss details on your practice routines at home.
